Music on Mainstreet Concert Series returns
The annual Music on Mainstreet Concert Series continues Wednesday, June 17 as Kickin Country returns to the stage in downtown Solon at 7 p.m. with a mix of older country and rock-n-roll from such artists as Credence Clearwater Revival, the Eagles, Bob Seger, Johnny Cash, The Judds, Terri Clark, JoDee Messina, and others. The free concert series runs every Wednesday through August 12. and is dedicated to longtime Solon servant Scott Kleppe.
The July 15 concert, featuring Solon native Alex Newkirk, will be held at Meadowlark Acres (Solon Senior Housing) due to Beef Days set-up.
Celebrate the Semiquincentennial in Ely
St. John’s Lutheran Church and First Presbyterian Church near Ely are combining to hold a patriotic event in honor of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence Sunday, June 14, at 2 p.m. at the Ely American Legion Post 555, 1545 Main St., Ely. The event will feature choir, handbells, and solos.
Flag Retirement Service & Ceremony planned for Flag Day
Solon American Legion Stinocher Post 460 and Scout Troop 120 are planning a Flag Retirement Service & Ceremony to dispose of worn, torn, and faded flags on Flag Day, Sunday, June 14, at 6 p.m. Flag Day is designated by the American Legion as the official day to dispose of retired flags. The ceremony will be held at the grass parking area east of the Solon American Legion Ballfield and north of the Solon Public Library.
The general public is invited to attend this patriotic and moving ceremony. You are encouraged to bring any worn flags that evening for proper disposal. No seating will be available so please bring your own lawn chairs.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held Monday, June 15, at 7 p.m., at the same location.
Finding Nemo Jr. takes the stage at the Solon Center for the Arts
We are thrilled to welcome you to Solon Middle School Drama’s production of Disney’s Finding Nemo Jr. This adaptation of the beloved 2003 film follows the epic adventures of Nemo, his overprotective father Marlin, and their sweet yet forgetful new friend, Dory. This 60-minute version features memorable, original music by award-winning songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. On this musical journey–with the help of lovable characters along the way–our three main characters each find what they need the most. Nemo finds bravery, Marlin finds the strength to let go, and Dory finds a family worth remembering. Come see the product of all the hard work our SMS students have put in over the last six months!
