Library Programs
Join us Friday, May 29, 6-7:30 p.m., to kick-off the start of summer and our summer reading program! This year will be an even BIGGER BASH to celebrate the Solon Public Library’s 25th anniversary in this building.
Get in on the fun with an inflatable obstacle course, toddler bounce house, giant yard games, and anniversary mural painting. Play with the Iowa Children’s Museum and grab a hot dog while exploring the local businesses and organizations tabling. And don’t forget to pick up your reading logs and brochure to get all the details of the summer.
Summer Reading Program runs from June 1 through July 31. Plant a Seed, Read!
Tuesday, June 2, is Primary Election Day, and the Library’s community meeting room will serve as a polling place from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Because of this, no library programs will be held on-site that day. Instead, join us at 10:30 a.m. at the Solon Recreation and Nature Area Splash Pad for a fun-filled Parachute Play program!
This summer we’ll have weekly Kids Summer Programs on Tuesdays at 3 p.m. from June 9 through July 28. Incoming 1st through 8th graders will enjoy a variety of activities from homemade play dough, DIY bee houses, LEGO rain gutter regatta and so much more.
Special guests from Do Art Productions will join us Friday, June 12, for a Comic Book Workshop at 9 a.m. Kids and Teens (incoming 3rd through 12th graders) will enjoy this hands-on workshop on creating comics.
Local legend, the Cold Blooded Redhead, will join us Saturday, June 13, at 10:30 a.m. to introduce some of her reptiles and arachnids! Register for this all-ages program to learn more and even touch some of these new friends.

Did You Know?
While the Library Board of Trustees and newly appointed building committee scheduled a space needs study (how big should this new library be?) and evaluated possible sites for the new building, a million penny campaign was started. Jack Neuzil built a large collection box, large enough for a big dinosaur inside. This box was hosted by Food Pride (now Sam’s Main St. Market), just inside their front doors. Over several months’ time, donations grew and incredibly, with the help of a crew of deputized elementary students, $10,000 was hauled from that collection box over to the Solon State Bank for counting. Extra coin counters were brought in to handle the job.
