A public hearing will be held Thursday, July 16, by the Solon Community School District (SCSD) Board of Education to receive comments regarding plans for the new Central Administration Building.
The facility, which will replace the current offices located in the former high school/middle school at 301 South Iowa Street, will be built just south of the Iowa Street entrance to the Solon Intermediate School (SIS) on a pair of vacant lots purchased several years ago by the District, and allowing the offices to be located on the District’s existing campus. Plans call for an approximately 4,100-square foot building, which will house the central administrative offices and a boardroom for Board of Education meetings, district committee meetings, and for staff professional development.
The Central Administration Building is the final project associated with a $25.5 million General Obligation Bond measure approved by voters in 2023. Demolition of the current building, which also contains the Solon Community Center is slated for 2027 after completion of the new facility.
Bond-funded projects include:
• Expansion of SIS
• Updates to Lakeview Elementary School
• Creation of a dedicated Transportation Center
• Turf replacement at Spartan Stadium
• Addition of a multi-use facility (currently under construction adjacent to Solon Middle School)
The new administrative building has an estimated project budget of $1.2 million and the District says the project has been intentionally designed to attract bids from local contractors, a move they feel could reduce overall construction costs to approximately $900,000.
The public hearing is scheduled for 5:40 p.m. Proposed drawings, specifications, and form of contract may be examined at the Central Office, 301 South Iowa Street, from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.
