Library programs
Adults can have fun with Summer Reading, too! Summer Library Logs are available at the Library for Adults & Young Adults (16+) and Parents & Caregivers. Don’t have time to read on your own but you’re always reading to the littles and kids in your family? Then feel free to pick up a Parents & Caregivers Library Log to fill out for yourself, and your younger family members can fill out a Little’s or Kid’s Library Log for the same books you read together. We value every reading moment shared between children and their adults, so a book shared between generations counts for both categories during the Summer Reading Program. Fill up the Level 1 reading slip in your category and turn it in at the Library to claim a Summer Reading Program shirt, while supplies last. Turn in each Level slip to claim small prizes and to enter for a chance to win more prizes!
Don’t forget! Summer activities and events at the Library will also provide secret codes for a chance to win more prizes!
We’d like to thank everyone who attended and participated in our Kick-Off Party at the end of May. Over 450 community members came to the Library for food, games, and to collect Library Logs. Follow our Facebook and Instagram pages to see some of our favorite photos from the event. Visit the Library to see the results of our community handprint mural which will be on display in our Children’s Section!

Accessibility in the Library catalog
The Library collection includes materials for all ages, all abilities!
You can find some of our accessible materials by searching the Library catalog for a book and then navigating to ‘Refine Search.’ There, under ‘Medium,’ you can see our availability of books in ‘Large Print’–or find your book in ‘Bridges.’
When checking out e-books through our Bridges access and the Libby app, residents can browse a collection of over 100,000 materials. Many of the materials available on Libby can be altered for a more pleasant reading experience, from changing the text size, changing the app lighting, and even turning on ‘Open Dyslexic’ book design.
Though it may take some getting used to, checking out e-books on a mobile device can offer readers some special options to tailor their reading experience to best suit their needs. Don’t be afraid to call or visit the Library for more information about our Bridges access and using the Libby app for your reading.
What’s new?
Whether you’re adventuring on a faraway alien planet, or breaking into the legal profession, ready the popcorn and enjoy some new DVDs available at the Library!
Avatar: Fire & Ash. With “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” James Cameron takes audiences back to Pandora in an immersive new adventure with Marine turned Na’vi leader Jake Sully, Na’vi warrior Neytiri, and the Sully family. [PG-13]
Legally Blonde Triple Feature. Legally Blonde – 96 minutes, 2001 – Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) may look like just another California blonde, but she’s nobody’s fool. Sensible, beautiful and, of course, impeccably dressed, the determined Elle is perfectly suited to use the law for good in these hilarious, upbeat films starring some of Hollywood’s biggest stars! First, in Legally Blonde, Elle chases her boyfriend to law school, then enrolls, graduates and passes the bar with flying colors (but mostly just pink). [PG-13]
Legally blonde 2 – 95 minutes, 2003 – When Elle (Witherspoon) discovers that her lovable chihuahua Bruiser’s mom is locked in a cruel animal testing facility, she heads to D.C. to fight for animal rights, give Washington a makeover and prove once and for all that America really is the land of the free…and the home of the blonde! [PG-13]
Legally Blondes – 86 minutes, 2008 – focusing on Elle Woods’ British twin cousins, Annie and Izzy, who move to California and attend a strict prep school. They combat snobby classmates, survive a frame-up for cheating, and use their charm and legal wit to overhaul the school’s social scene. [PG]
Send Help. A woman and her overbearing boss become stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash. They must overcome past grievances and work together to survive, but ultimately, it’s a battle of wills and wits to make it out alive. [R]
Did you know?
Many different locations were considered for the new library, including where the bandstand is located, the Palmer House livery stable, and land west of Lakeview Elementary. Finally, the Solon American Legion generously donated the land just east of their baseball field. This land, which was at one time a quarry, at 320 W. Main Street, would now become the home of the new Solon Public Library.
