The Spartans held the Fairfield Trojans scoreless through 79 minutes of a Class 2A Substate semifinals match Wednesday, May 27. Then, with but seven seconds remaining, the Trojans’ Lane Stever slipped the ball past keeper Jake Grimm to score. However, Solon had managed to put three goals up on the scoreboard throughout the match, taking the win and advancing to a Friday, May 29, Substate final against archrival Mount Vernon.

Two minutes into the first half, Ethan Ulch struck with an assist by Tucker Spence for a quick 1-0 lead. Ulch struck again with 12:33 remaining in the half when Ryan Locke took a shot that was blocked and bounced out to Ulch, who knocked it in with ease. Channing Wildrick, a freshman, put in the third goal with 21:37 left to go in the second half.
