Saturday, April 18, Iowa City West High’s Trojans visited on a sunny morning with strong, icy winds. West entered the non-conference contest unranked in Class 3A at 3-1 while the Lady Spartans entered the Class 1A rankings in the No. 13 spot.
Sophia Link put Solon on the scoreboard with a free kick bobbled by West’s keeper. The 1-0 lead was short lived as the Trojans equalized for a 1-1 halftime tie. Sofia Ortega made it 2-1 in the second half with an assist by Link before West High put up three goals for the win.
Senior Audrey Heineman spent the full 80 minutes in goal with ten saves on the day.
