For the third time University of Iowa journalism and mass communications students in the Iowa Community News class will be hitting the streets of Solon and telling the stories that are important to you.
The purpose of the Community News Class is: “Public affairs reporting; introducing and utilizing community-engaged storytelling techniques. Learn about government reporting and covering underrepresented groups, and to work with the goal of publishing project stories in an Iowa newspaper.”
This semester Allisa Pandit, Madison Schuler, Mitchell Brinkmeyer, and Drew Grimm will be covering Solon as their assigned beat.
Allisa Pandit is a senior at the University of Iowa studying business analytics and journalism. After graduation, she plans to attend law school and pursue a career in business law. In her free time, Allisa enjoys writing, traveling, exploring new restaurants and cafés, and taking long walks — Iowa weather permitting.
Madison Schuler is a senior at the University of Iowa majoring in Journalism and Mass Communication with a minor in International Relations. After graduation, she hopes to work for an online or print publication.
Mitchell Brinkmeyer is a fourth-year student at the University of Iowa. He is currently a Journalism/Mass Communications and English/Creative Writing double major and hopes to join the journalistic workforce after graduation in May 2026.
Drew Grimm is a University of Iowa senior from Cedar Rapids who has been reporting and photographing sports for the Economist since August.
We look forward to working with these students and showcasing their work this spring.
