Saturday morning, up to 400 cyclists will tackle the trails of Lake Macbride State Park on fat tire (3.8” or wider) bikes for the ninth annual Lake Macbride Fat Tire Classic races. The event, sponsored by the Solon Centennial Lions Club and Sugar Bottom Bikes, is a fundraiser for the Lions and a challenge for the riders. Riders will compete in either a 15-mile (10:00 a.m.) or 30-mile race (9:00 a.m.) starting and finishing at Lake MacBride Golf Course.
Registration for the event closed Monday, Feb. 2.
While the fastest riders tend to finish within about two hours, the race could take up to six hours to complete. Drivers on Hwy. 382 should be on the lookout for racers crossing the highway near the golf course, and on brief stretches of roads within the park.
The Solon Economist will have photos and results next week.
