Fourteen wrestling teams woke up extra early on a Saturday morning and headed to Solon High School for the 2026 Ed Hadenfeldt Wrestling Invitational on Jan. 17. The Spartans had a mixture of upsets and standouts, including three wrestlers reaching the first place match.
Solon standouts
Anderson Osgood – 106 pounds
Anderson Osgood has been dominant all season long at 106-pounds, and he only proved himself more with his performance throughout the tournament. His quarterfinal battle was against Elliot Montgomery of West Branch, which he won at ease with a 16-1 tech fall.
Iowa City Liberty’s Conner McGonegle was a more even matchup with the two being scoreless after the first period. Osgood’s second period escape and takedown gave him the four-point advantage, and another takedown in the final period secured his spot in the first place game.
Osgood found himself going against top-ranked Jackson Parmater of Vinton-Shellsburg, whom he lost to a week prior by a 19-1 tech fall. And while Osgood didn’t get tech fall’d this time around, he ended up on the losing end in a 9-1 finish.
Carson Kidwell – 157 pounds
A fellow Spartan who had a similar outing to Osgood in the tournament was 157-pounder Carson Kidwell. His quarterfinal matchup versus Clear Creek-Amana’s Brody Schrock was a grind out, despite two takedowns and two escapes from the Solon native en route to an 8-3 win.
Lisbon’s Ian Kelsey pushed Kidwell to the brink as the two logged a two-point reversal in the third period after two scoreless rounds for an overtime battle. And in the end, it was Kidwell who secured the takedown to move on to the title match.
Kidwell also faced the top-ranked wrestler in his weight class in North Scott’s Benjamin Lightle, to where he was simply outmatched. Lightle logged a takedown in every period, and a period two escape, while Kidwell was scoreless in a 10-0 battle.
Lucas Feuerbach – 285 pounds
Fresh off his 100th career win, 285-pounder Lucas Feuerbach enjoyed his first-round bye and waited to find out who his quarterfinal opponent was, which ended up being Marengo’s Caleb Huber. Feuerbach didn’t break a sweat getting past him with an 18-4 major decision, including five takedowns.
Clear Creek-Amana’s Karl Westermann was next and logged just three points, all on escapes. Feuerbach’s four takedowns secured a 12-3 victory for him and a spot for the 285-pound title. And as he’s done all season, he dominated North Scott’s Bryce Stewart in the first place match, 11-2, with three takedowns – adding to a dominant high school resume.
