Solon’s youth can put their basketball skills to the test this Sunday, January 25, as the Knights of Columbus and Solon Optimist Clubs hold their annual basketball contests at the Solon Community Center.
For Solon Knights of Columbus Randall-Steinbrech Council 12129, it’s a Free Throw Championship with the potential to advance to district, state, even national competition.
“We compete at each age group between 9-14 for boys and girls. We like to get the kids out and have them compete a little bit, have some fun, and it’s a nice thing to do in the wintertime,” said the K of C’s Mark Roskopf during last year’s event.
On the other end of the gym, kids will be dribbling, passing, and shooting in the Optimist’s Tri-Star Basketball Competition, a tradition in Solon for well over 50 years with 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place awards on the line.
