Advocate 2026 proposed trips
Wednesday, April 22 – “Honky Tonk Angels,” Circa 21-Rock Island, cost: TBA
Circa 21 Dinner Playhouse is a rehabbed 1921 historic building in the Art Deco style with Black Hawk Indian motifs embedded in the décor. Matinee shows include a meal, entertainment from the “Bootlegger” servers, and the featured show. Trip cost includes bus travel and theater ticket.
The Advocates first attended Circa 21 Playhouse theater in 2010 and have traveled to the theater 29 times since our first visit to see “Branson on the Road.” We first saw “Honky Tonk Angels” in 2010 at the Old Creamery Theater in Amana.
“Honky Tonk Angels” is a musical celebration of female country music stars, telling the story of three women who leave their mundane lives behind to pursue their dreams of singing in Nashville. Angela is a housewife, weary of standing by her man and his coming home a-drinkin’ with lovin’ on his mind, who decides that her boots were made for walking. Sue Ellen has abandoned working nine-to-five to reconnect with her childhood home. Darlene was born a coal miner’s daughter, but after Billy Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge, she packed up her guitar and set out to fulfill the dream they shared. The show features a collection of over 30 classic country hits, including songs like “Stand By Your Man,” “9 to 5,” and “Harper Valley PTA,” woven into a humorous and heartwarming narrative. You’ll love this show’s feel-good energy, foot-stomping music!
