Duane Steven Nearad, age 67, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday October 12, 2025, at the Stone Cottage Care Center. In keeping with Duane’s wishes, there will be no formal services.

Duane was born on March 13, 1958, in Iowa City, IA to parents Wilbur and Mary Nearad. Duane graduated from Solon High School in 1978 and lived his entire life in Solon, IA.

Duane was a simple man who liked simple things. He was most happy when he was outdoors. Known for his unwavering opinions and iron will, Duane lived life exactly as he saw fit – never one to back down from a challenge or a debate.

Duane is survived by his father, Wilbur Nearad; sister Donna Rohret and husband Rob; children, Lee Nearad, Amanda Pitts and husband Justin; grandchildren, Tatum Burnhardt, Bella Nearad, Carson and Emilia Pitts; nephew, Lonnie Robert and wife Lisa; nieces, Melissa Hohn and husband James, and Michelle Holeton. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Nearad.
