Earlier this year we announced we were awarded a grant from the third round of funding through ALA LTC: Accessible Small and Rural Communities. We’re delighted to share that thanks to this grant and additional funding provided by the Solon Beef Days committee, we have completed this project! The restrooms are now equipped with ADA compliant door openers. These openers enable all visitors ease of access to the restrooms with just the touch of a button!
Thank you to everyone for participating in our community discussions and helping us meet these needs for our community. Special thanks to the City of Solon Public Works for helping us get this project complete!
Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities, an American Library Association initiative that provides community engagement and accessibility resources to small and rural libraries to help them better serve people with disabilities.

What We’re Reading
This month is dedicated to intellectual freedom. Reading is one of the greatest ways to experience things from the perspective of others and to get information crucial to developing critical thinking. So, this month’s Solon Book Club selection is Lula Dean’s Little Library of Banned Books: When Banned Books Shake Up a Small Georgia Town—A Funny and Poignant Novel about Censorship, Friendship, and Unexpected Connections by Kirsten Miller.
“The provocative and hilarious summer read that will have book lovers cheering and everyone talking! Kirsten Miller, author of The Change, brings us a bracing, wildly entertaining satire about a small Southern town, a pitched battle over banned books, and a little lending library that changes everything.”
The Solon Book Club meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 21. Alternatively, bring your own banned or challenged book and tell us: why it was challenged/banned, why it is important to read, and most importantly, what you thought of it. If you need ideas, stop by the library and check the display or have a librarian help you find one in our collection or through inter-library loan.
