ANAMOSA — Solon Middle School’s boys cross country team took the team title Saturday, Sept. 27 in Anamosa’s invitational meet edging out Anamosa’s closest rival – Monticello – 32-37, and topping an 11-team field in the two-mile event held at the Anamosa Middle School.
Sebastian Holmes set the pace for the young Spartans with an eighth place showing in 12:09.5 followed by Layne Harden (10th, 12:12.4), Asher Sutton (14th, 12:50.3), and Boden Laing (16th, 12:56.9) to round out the top-20.
The boys were fifth in their home invitational Monday, Sept. 22 behind champion Cedar Rapids Prairie (17), Williamsburg (73), Mount Vernon-Lisbon (144), and Drexler (151) with 159 team points.
Holmes led the Spartans with a tenth place finish in 12:38.3 followed by Harden (15th, 12:53.2).
The girls took runner-up at Anamosa with 32 points behind champion Tipton (29). Emma Olsem led Solon with a fourth place finish in 12:53.9 followed by Scout Brodersen (9th, 13:18.3), Josie Donnenwerth (10th, 13.27.3), Kendall Henning (11th, 13:28.6), Evie Haugland (12th, 13:29.2), Drew Hinkle (16th, 13:34.7), Ashlyn Schmidt (17th, 13:36.9), Hannah Thomsen (18th, 13:43.6), and Baylor Moeller rounding out the top-20 (13:48.5).
The girls took fourth in the home invitational behind champion Tipton (69), Williamsburg (79), and Cedar Rapids Prairie (90). Olsem led Solon with an 11th place finish around the SRNA course in 13:56.0 followed by Haugland (14th, 14:05.1), Hinkle (19th, 14:14.0), and Henning (20th, 14:14.8).
