MARION — The varsity volleyball girls maintained their No. 8 ranking in Class 4A while improving to 18-5 overall with a 3-2 win over then No. 9-ranked Marion Tuesday, Sept. 23 in Marion.
Solon won the first two sets 25-22 and 25-23 before dropping the third set 19-25 and the fourth 23-25 before battling back to a 15-12 win in the fifth.
Senior Kiley Devery led Solon’s offense with 17 kills backed up by freshman Amelia Guinn with ten. Junior Avery Kellen produced seven with six by senior Jozie Lahr, five from freshman Makinley Galvan, two from junior Addison Walter, and one by senior Gable Knight.
Senior Cydney Jaster made 20 assists with 19 by junior Scarlett Ferin and one by junior Macy Fuller.
Devery made two solo blocks, Lahr had five block assists, and libero Kennedey Whitford, a senior, made 18 digs. Whitford also produced two ace serves with two by Ferin and one each from Jaster and junior Kalynn Timmons.
