Center Point-Urbana 3 Solon 2
The Stormin’ Pointers, ranked No. 8 in Class 3A by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) defeated the No. 9-ranked Lady Spartans 3-2 Tuesday, Sept. 16 in Solon with Solon winning the opening set convincingly 25-14 and pulling out a set two win at 26-24. CPU took the third set 25-23 and the fourth 25-22 forcing a fifth, which ended in a 15-13 win for the Pointers.
Senior Kiley Devery led Solon with 17 kills, senior Jozie Lahr made 13 with a dozen by freshman Amelia Guinn. Senior Gable Knight and junior Harper Nicholson produced six apiece with five by freshman Makinley Galvan and one from junior Macy Fuller. Lahr had two solo blocks to lead the Lady Spartan defense with one by Devery. Senior Kennedey Whitford had three ace serves with one each by senior Cydney Jaster, Devery, and junior Scarlett Ferin.
Lady Spartans go 2-1 in Clinton’ tournament
Saturday, Sept. 20 the Lady Spartans defeated Clinton 2-0 (21-11, 21-9), fell to Wilton 2-1 (25-21, 22-25, 5-15), and defeated the host River Queens a second time 2-0 (25-13, 25-12).
Individual stats were not available as of deadline.
Solon ended the week at 14-5 overall and moved up one spot in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s weekly rankings.
