DUBUQUE — City High’s girls swimming and diving team picked up their first win of the season Tuesday, Sept. 2 as they splashed the Wahlert Catholic Golden Eagles 94-87 in Dubuque on a night when they were a little short-handed.
“We had ten kids out (eight sick and two out of town). The kids did well for our low numbers,” said Coach Mandi Kowal who noted the young group is doing well early in the season.
The Little Hawks are joined by Solon’s Maddie Elkins, Ella Pressler, Avery Feuerbach, Ireland Hagarty, and Paige Anderson this season.
Elkins swam the second leg of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay (4:06.78) with Maeve Waas, Abby Tierney, and Louisa Berry-Stoelzle, led off in the 2nd place 200 freestyle relay (1:50.73) with Clara Solt Espinosa, Tierney, and Berry-Stoelzle, and was fifth in the 200 freestyle (2:24.84) and 50 freestyle (29.22).
Feuerbach was third in the 200 IM (individual medley) (2:58.27), fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:20.26), and swam the second leg of the third place 200 freestyle relay (2:05.19) with Adelaide Newton, Lolita Hurlbutt, and Halie Schweitzer), and the second leg of the third-place 400 freestyle relay (4:35.80) with Newton, Vidya Kumar, and Schweitzer.
Hagarty took third in 1-meter diving, scoring 135.40 points.
