Sometimes in football you just have to pick up the ball and run with it. And that’s exactly what freshman quarterback Mac Svalstad did Friday, August 29 in the frosh-soph game at home against Assumption Catholic (Davenport).
A botched snap led to Svalstad, deep in Spartan territory, picking up the ball and scrambling to his right, evading tackles, and finding a route all the way downfield for a touchdown. On the ensuing point after kick, another bad snap led Svalstad to scamper around to his left for a two-point conversion with 2:26 left in the first half.
The Spartans went on to win the contest 8-0.
