The varsity Spartans opened the 2025 campaign with a 36-13 win at home against Assumption Catholic of Davenport.
Kaden Hoeper, a junior, scored on a pass from senior Eli Kampman in Solon’s opening drive, putting the punctuation mark on a three-play, 76-yard effort. Kampman ran the ball in for a 2-point conversion to give Solon an 8-0 lead. The Knights answered late in the first quarter to cut the Spartans’ lead to 8-7.
Maddox Kelley, a junior, scored in the second quarter on a short run with a PAT by senior Ryan Locke to go up 15-7. A 39-yard run by the Knights made it 15-13 with just under five minutes left in the first half. In the final minute Kampman connected with Kelley in the endzone for another score to make it 21-13. Locke’s kick split the uprights for a 22-13 halftime lead.
Kampman found Hoeper for an 80-yard touchdown in the third for a 29-13 advantage going into the fourth quarter.
