SOLON — The Solon Lady Spartans advanced to the second round of the Regional Playoffs with a 9-1 win over Anamosa Thursday, July 10, in Solon. The game was tight for four innings. Solon opened the scoring in the first inning when Laeni Hinkle smacked a double and Addie Miller followed with a two-out, two-run homer, her seventh of the season.
The lead stood up as Emerson Miller tossed three scoreless innings to maintain the 2-0 lead. The Blue Raiders broke up the shutout in the fourth on an RBI hit by Anamosa’s Leigha Hinrichs. However, another scoreless inning by Miller in the fifth woke up the Solon bats.
Keegan Kleppe, Laeni Hinkle, Izzy Frees and Addie Miller each singled to start the bottom of fifth inning making the score 4-1. A Blue Raider error and Liv Nelson double pushed the lead to 7-1 and the rout was on. An Addie Walter ground ball added a run and Kleppe’s second hit of the inning ended the game by run rule 9-1, setting up a rematch with WaMaC rival Mt Vernon in the semifinals.
