VAN HORNE — Mother Nature pushed the pause button back on June 26 when Solon and Benton Community tangled in Van Horne. The Bobcats won the opener 7-5 as the Spartans were forced to wait for the opportunity to go for a split. That opportunity came Wednesday, July 2 with Solon winning 6-2, but also meant cancelling a non-conference game with Wahlert Catholic.
Two Spartans crossed the dish in the top of the first inning and Solon saw their lead cut by half as one Bobcat scored in the third. Four Solon runs in the sixth sealed the win and improved the club to 17-11 overall.
Dylan Gorham led at the plate with three of Solon’s eight hits and drove in two runs. Nolan Seagren, Maddox Kelley, Luke Merrick, Carson Kidwell, and Ty Bell had one hit each with a double and two RBIs for Seagren. Freshman Tate Miller went the distance giving up three hits and two runs (one earned), walking one and retiring three batters.
