MANCHESTER — The varsity Spartans moved to 16-11 on the season Monday, June 30, with a road split against the West Delaware Hawks (13-13).
The Hawks soared to a 6-0 lead in game one with four runs in the bottom of the second inning and two in the third before Solon platted two runners in the fourth. West Delaware scored two more runs in the fourth and fifth while holding the Spartans to just one more run in the fifth.
Senior Nolan Seagren and freshman Luke Merrick produced three hits each to lead Solon’s 13-hit effort. Seagren belted a pair of doubles and drove in one run with a homerun for Merrick. Junior Hunter Knorr had two singles with one hit apiece by sophomore Maddox Kelley, junior Carson Kidwell, junior Dylan Gorham, sophomore Luke Deike, and senior Jackson Link (an RBI double).
Sophomore Brady Wick was charged with the loss after two innings on the mound giving up six hits and six earned runs, walking three and striking out three. Knorr threw three innings giving up five hits and four earned runs with two walks and three strikeouts while senior Beau Mullen worked one inning giving up no hits and no runs with three walks and one strikeout.
The Spartans continued to have hot bats in the nightcap, this time however they were able to capitalize and take a 7-0 lead into the bottom half of the third inning after plating two in the top of the first, three in the second, and two in the third. The Hawks plated their only run in the bottom of the third. After a scoreless fourth Solon scored one in the fifth and two runs each in the sixth and seventh to secure the split.
Merrick, sophomore Luke Deike, and junior Hayden Detra produced two hits each with a double for Detra and a homer and four RBIs for Merrick. Seagren, Kelley, Kidwell, Gorham, Wick, and Link had one hit apiece with a homer and two RBIs for Kelley and two RBIs for Deike.
Junior Tyler Greazel took the win after going six innings on the bump giving up six hits and one unearned run, walking four and striking out three. Link pitched one inning walking one and striking out one.
