POLK CITY — The Johnston Golf Foundation, in an effort to promote the top Iowa high school girls and boys golfers, and assist them with their post-secondary plans, hosted the inaugural Iowa High School Golf Showcase at the Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City Monday, June 2.
Solon HS seniors Isiah Zoske and Sydney Dee competed in the tournament with Zoske, a Kirkwood Community College commit, scoring 79 across the 18-hole course and Dee, a University of Wisconsin-La Crosse commit, carding 88.
Andrew Johannsen of Johnston took the boy’s championship with 71 while Muscatine’s Rylee Brockhouse won the girl’s championship at 75.
Overall, 90 golfers – 43 girls and 47 boys, from across all four classes (1A-4A). 33 schools were represented on the girl’s side with 91% of the field competing in their state tournament with 37 schools represented on the boy’s side with 70% competing in the fall (4A) or spring (1A-3A) State Tournaments.
Carson Hattel, Men’s and Women’s Head Golf Coach for the Johnston Community Schools, and with the Johnston Golf Foundation said, “Amazingly strong field on both sides. A ton of kids were/are individual state champs, members of team state champs, and numerous individuals that finished in top-10 of their class at State and throughout the season.”
