SOLON — Once again Solon hosted the annual Fight With Flash Foundation’s Crosstown Classic with the Spartans, Iowa City High, Iowa City West High, Regina Catholic, Regina Catholic, and Clear Creek Amana participating in a day of rivalry baseball in honor and memory of Austin “Flash” Schroeder.
Schroeder was diagnosed with a form of T-Cell lymphoma in April 2014 at the age of 14 and succumbed to it one year later. The family realized 04282015, the date of his death, added up to 22, his jersey number. In his memory the Fight With Flash Foundation was formed to provide support to children, adolescents, and young adults (and their families) who are battling cancer.
Solon freshman Caidence Macke, a multi-sport athlete in cross country, wrestling, track, softball, and golf, threw out the first pitch. Macke was diagnosed with cancer and has undergone surgery, radiation, and continues chemotherapy infusions.
The Spartans faced the City High Little Hawks, falling 13-1 with Solon’s run coming in the bottom of the second inning.
