HUDSON — A late season surge and six-match win streak came to a heartbreaking 5-0 loss in a Class 1A Regional Final match Friday, May 30, to the No. 5-ranked Hudson Pirates in Hudson. The Pirates (18-2) advanced to the State Tournament after scoring once in the first half and four times in the second. Junior Gable Knight, in her first season of soccer in over a decade, made eight saves in the contest. Sophomore Sophia Link and junior Sofia Ortega were documented with one shot on goal each.
The Lady Spartans’ postseason campaign opened with a 10-0 shelling of Northeast in the first round and was followed by a 3-1 upset over No. 12-ranked Maquoketa in the quarterfinals.
Solon defeated Regina Catholic 3-2 Wednesday, May 28, in the quarterfinals with two goals in the first and one in the second. Senior Addi Greene, sophomore Laney Johnson, and sophomore Laeni Hinkle scored for Solon with assists by senior Rose McAtee and Ortega while Knight made seven saves.
Solon finished the season at 11-7-2 and says goodbye to McAtee, Silvie Hendricks, Greene, Farrah Hendricks, Ella Havlicek, Elena Swan, and Jocelyn Hendricks.
