MOUNT VERNON — Solon’s varsity girls and boys track and field teams are sending eleven events to the 2025 Class 3A State Coed Meet this week at Drake University in Des Moines after last Thursday’s qualifying meet in Mount Vernon.
Boys qualify four events
Eli Kampman qualified on time with a 23.10 seconds third-place finish in the 200-meter dash. Will Brandt, Owen Young, Preston Raasch, and Spencer Michels qualified on time in the 4×800 with a third-place finish in 8:27.38 while Kaden Hoeper was an automatic qualifier with a second-place finish in the high jump, clearing 6’-4”.
Caleb Bock took third place in long jump and qualified for State with his 21’-4-1/2” leap.
Girls qualify seven events
Jerzey Haluska qualified on time with a 1:00.15 third-place finish in the 400-meter dash. Kate Shafer won the discus with a 130’-8” throw and was third in the shot put with a qualifying throw of 36’-11-3/4”. Fellow thrower Piper Johnson qualified in discus with a 113’- 1” throw.
The Lady Spartans qualified three relay events, the 4×200 (Piper Stahle, Grace Hoeper, Marin Ashbacker, and Kobi Lietz), 4×400 (Quinn Armentrout, Jerzey Haluska, Hoeper, and Reese Hahn), and 1600-meter distance medley (Stahle, Hoeper, Hahn, and Falyn Svalstad) with a second place finish (1:46.66) for the 4×200, a first place finish (4:06.47) for the 4×400, and a second place finish (4:20.86) for the distance medley.
