SOLON — WaMaC East rivals Solon and Mount Vernon met under ‘severe clear’ skies Saturday morning in Spartan Stadium for a physical and hard-fought match.
The Lady Spartans attacked early as senior Rose McAtee attempted to pound the ball down the Mustangs’ throats roughly eight minutes into the contest. However Mount Vernon’s senior keeper Cana Safo denied her the score, setting the tone for the battle that was unfolding.
The first half ended in a 0-0 tie.
With 28 minutes left in the second half junior Sofia Ortega made a corner kick that was deflected. However senior Addi Greene was in the right place at the right time, scoring on the rebound. Individual stats were not available as of deadline.

The Lady Spartans hosted the Grinnell Tigers Tuesday, May 6, with a 5-1 win fueled by two goals in the first half and three in the second. The Tigers struck in the second half. Stats were not available.
