Michael Aicher, 73, of Solon, passed away on November 28, 2024 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City.
Visitation will be held from 4-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024 at the funeral home. Interment and military honors will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Michael was born on November 26, 1951 in Iowa City to Harry and Laura (Parizek) Aicher. After graduating high school, Michael joined the United States Navy where he proudly served 36 years between active duty and the reserves.
In 1981, Michael opened Solon Truck and Tractor Repair and still operated the business up until his passing. He was a skilled diesel mechanic that enjoyed spending many hours in his shop. For over 20 years, Michael was a beloved school bus driver for the Solon Community School District. His students would look forward to him turning on the radio and handing out treats on Friday’s when they were well-behaved during the week.
Aside from working, Michael enjoyed time outside; particularly hunting, fishing, gardening and growing sweet corn which everyone loved. When he wasn’t watching his old western shows, he could be found volunteering for the Solon American Legion or helping his community with various veteran’s activities and fundraisers.
Michael is survived by his sister, Terre (Richard) Dolphin; nieces: Lora Dolphin (Patrick Dolphin-Leahy) and Julia Dolphin-Huffman (Eddie); nephew, Jeffrey (Deb) Dolphin; great nieces: Lizzie (Jeff) Kostow and Abby Huffman (Tim Venn); great-great niece, Olivia Kostow. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Barbara and Deborah Aicher and stepmother, Louise Aicher.
