Solon cookie baker wins State Fair honors

DES MOINES — The best cookie bakers from across the state put their top creations to the test in the Midwest Living Cookies competition judged Tuesday, August 13 and Wednesday, August 14, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Abby Kaska took first place in Bar Cookies (Blondies).

Vegetable crops win State Fair Honors

Solon’s Abby and Ann Kaska recognized

DES MOINES — Gardeners from across the state brought their best vegetables to Des Moines to compete in the Vegetable Crop competitions judged at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Abby and Ann Kaska of Solon picked up several awards.

Abby took 2nd place in Cucumbers (Any other), 2nd in Peppers (Sweet, Gypsy), 2nd in Summer Squash (Zucchini, Yellow), 1st place in Tomatoes (Grape) and Tomatoes (Teardrop), 3rd in Pumpkin (Ornamental, Mini Orange), and 3rd in Plate of Mixed Vegetables.

Ann took 3rd place in Peppers (Sweet, Gypsy), 2nd in Tomatoes (Cherry, any other Large Type), and 3rd in Any Other.
