Raiders sweep Sparty’s Ladies 4-2, 6-1
The week opened with a home doubleheader against Williamsburg Monday, June 10 with the WaMaC West Raiders getting the sweep.
Laeni Hinkle scored both of Solon’s runs in the second and sixth innings while the Raiders plated three in the third and one in the seventh. Hinkle also had two hits including a solo homerun. Izzy Frees, Maddyn Gates, and McKenna Rogers produced one hit apiece. Kendall Jensen went the distance in the circle giving up six hits and four earned runs, walking three and striking out two.
The Raiders built a 5-0 lead early in the nightcap with two runs in the top of the second and three in the third. Frees drove in Dillon Ostrander in the bottom of the third for Solon’s only run. Rogers led Solon at the dish with two hits while Addie Miller, Gates, Bailey Woolley, and Kayla Meseck produced one base hit apiece. Zoey Grimm was charged with the loss after giving up ten hits and six runs (four earned), walking one and striking out one.
Lady Spartans have a rough time at Roland-Story tourney
Solon dipped to 8-13 overall after dropping four games (three to ranked teams) at Roland-Story’s tournament this past Friday and Saturday. The Lady Spartans, ranked No. 10 in Class 3A IGHSAU weekly rankings issued last Wednesday, June 12.
Estherville-Lincoln Central 7, Solon 5 – The Midgets, ranked No. 5 in 3A, answered two Solon runs in the top of the first inning with three of their own in the bottom, added two more in the third and one in the fourth, and added an insurance run in the sixth while denying the Lady Spartans any further runs until a three-run burst in the sixth. Addie Miller led with three hits including a home run and drove in two runs, Keegan Kleppe had two hits, and Izzy Frees, Bailey Woolley, and Laeni Hinkle produced one hit each with a two-RBI double for Woolley. Kendall Jensen went the distance in the circle giving up seven hits and seven runs (four earned), walking three and striking out one.
North Polk 12, Solon 0 – The Comets, No. 1 in 4A, blistered Solon with seven runs in the top of the first, four in the third, and one in the fourth for the shutout. Zoey Grimm took the loss after 2-1/3 innings giving up 13 hits and ten runs (seven earned). Hinkle pitched 1-1/3 innings giving up four hits and two earned runs.
South Hamilton 5, Solon 4 – Saturday’s competition opened with a loss to the unranked Hawks.
ADM (Adel-DeSoto-Minburn) 11, Solon 1 – The No. 9-ranked (in Class 4A) Tigers answered Solon’s run in the top of the first with one in the bottom of the inning, five in the second, and five in the third. Stats for the South Hamilton and ADM games were not available at deadline.
