NORTH LIBERTY — South Slope CEO, Chuck Deisbeck, attended the White House event, “Rural Communities in Action,” on May 13th which demonstrated the Biden-Harris Administration’s dedication to investing in rural communities across the nation. Notable attendees included White House Domestic Policy Advisor Neera Tanden, White House Office of Public Engagement Director Stephen Benjamin, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
Highlighting the monumental strides made by the Administration, the event emphasized the transformative impact of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, a historic commitment to revitalize and rebuild rural areas. This law signifies a substantial investment in rural America, embodying a comprehensive strategy to ensure that opportunity thrives in every corner of the nation.
A key focus of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is the monumental $65 billion allocation to guarantee universal access to affordable, reliable high-speed internet. This initiative includes a groundbreaking $2 billion program specifically designated for high-speed internet expansion on Tribal lands.
Furthermore, the Department of Agriculture (USDA) has spearheaded efforts to bridge the digital divide, committing $3.9 billion to 333 projects through its ReConnect Program. These initiatives will extend high-speed broadband access to over 622,000 individuals (247,000 households), unlocking new economic opportunities and enhancing the quality of life in rural communities nationwide.
Deisbeck commented on the significance of these initiatives, stating, “The investments outlined in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law are pivotal for the prosperity and resilience of rural communities. By expanding broadband access, we are laying the groundwork for sustainable growth and opportunity in rural America.”
