Enjoy your picnic this summer in an Iowa state park — we can’t wait to see you!
Here’s a few tips to make your picnic even better:
• Where do you want to go?
Scope out the options on the DNR shelter page (www.iowadnr.gov/Places-to-Go/State-Parks). Shelters vary in sizes and locations with outdoor amenities nearby, such as bathrooms, trails, and more.
• Grill or picnic?
You decide! Many shelters have a nearby grill to cook on-site. Or pack a basket with simple servings for your group.
• How many in your party?
It’s possible you may need a special event permit if you have a bigger group. If you have concerns, call the park office and they will answer any questions.
• Ready to play?
Many shelters are in open areas near playgrounds, volleyball pits, horseshoe pits, etc. Bring your frisbee, balls, and other equipment to play.
• Got trash?
Please help keep the park tidy by throwing away litter and carrying out trash when you leave.
• Have questions?
Our staff are here to help you. Simply call the park office prior to your visit.
Reserve your shelter today on the DNR online reservation system (https://iowastateparks.reserveamerica.com/). Use code FamFun5 for a $5 discount at checkout. Only available for online reservations. Code may be used until September 30, 2024.
