SOLON — The varsity Spartans notched two wins last week as they knocked off Independence and Center Point-Urbana.
Solon 3 Independence 2
Ryan Locke, a sophomore, scored three times Tuesday, April 9 as the Spartans traveled to Lyle Leinbaugh Field in Independence where they outlasted the Mustangs. Locke took nine shot total with seven on-goal in the contest. Eli Freerks shot five times with two attempts each by Evan Burg and Tucker Spence, and one shot each from Josiah Hale and Bryan Petrie. Zander Stookey made five saves while allowing two goals in the 80-minute match.
Solon 2 CPU 1
Center Point-Urbana (CPU) visited Thursday, April 11 on an evening split between rain and clear skies. Bryan Petrie scored in the second period, as did the Stormin’ Pointers, leading to a 1-1 stalemate that as with the varsity girls, was settled by a penalty kick (PK) shootout. Elliot Sutton and Ryan Locke took two shots in regular time with one by Antonin Guitton. Zander Stookey allowed one goal and made five saves during the 80 minutes of regulation play.
Details of the PK shootout were not available.
