CEDAR RAPIDS — The varsity Lady Spartans took second place in team points last Tuesday, April 9, at Prairie’s Hawkins Varsity Co-Ed meet trailing the host Prairie Hawks 199-185. WaMaC East rival Marion was third (122) followed by Center Point-Urbana (32), Cedar Rapids Washington (53), Xavier Catholic-Cedar Rapids (29), and Marshalltown (20).
Piper Stahle, Mia Duckett, Mia Stahle, and Aly Stahle beat the Drake Blue Oval Qualifier time with a 50.16 performance, good for second place, in the 4×100 relay. The list of 2024 Drake Relays qualifiers is set to be released Sunday, April 20.
Ten first-place finishes were posted by the Lady Spartans – Hailey Miller in long jump (15-9), Kate Shafer in discus (113-3), the 4×800 with Sydney Dee, Anna Quillin, Grace Hoeper, and Gracie Federspiel (10:15.81), shuttle hurdle relay with Aly Stahle, Trea Eidahl, Zoey Grimm, and Mia Stahle (1:09.55), Federspiel in the 400 dash (58.30), the 4×200 with Duckett, Marin Ashbacker, Piper Stahle, and Mia Stahle (1:48.97), Aly Stahle in the 100m hurdles (15.77), 4×100 throwers relay with Shafer, Abigail Felton, Reese Grimm, and Audrey Howell (58.44), and the 4×400 with Quillin, Hoeper, Federspiel, and Kobi Lietz (4:04.72). The foursome were just .72 seconds short of hitting the Blue Oval Qualification time.
Second place finishes went to Lilly Towne in high jump (4-10), Felton in shot put (33-8), the 800-meter sprint medley with Avery Kellen, Marin Ashbacker, Mia Stahle, and Lietz (1:54.83), Duckett in the 100 dash (12.72), the 1600 distance medley with Kellen, Lietz, Jerzey Haluska, and Falyn Svalstad (4:37.75), and Eidahl in the 400m hurdles (1:14.06).
Third place finishes went to the 4×800 with Ava Rolwes, Ella Sheeley, Jillian Elijah, and Mya Fordice (10:41.79) and Hoeper in the 400 dash (1:03.78).
