Mental Health 101 program Thursday, April 11
The third program in a four- part mental health series, is on Nature Therapy and is being held at the Solon Public Library Thursday, April 11, at 6:30 pm. The speaker, Annie Ventullo, is a clinical research therapist, and part time bookmobile librarian. She will discuss the benefits of nature on our mental and physical health. She will lead participants in creating nature journals. Those participating will go outside for a guided nature activity. Light refreshments will be served.
The Mental Health 101 series is being held under a partnership with the GFWC/Iowa Solon Women’s Club and the Solon Library staff. Quarterly programs focus on providing insight, resources, and coping skills for a variety of mental health conditions. The goal is to educate, de-stigmatize, and provide mental health resources.
Feedback from those attending past sessions has been very positive. The programs are provided at no cost and are open to the public.
Plastic Easter Eggs to be recycled
The GFWC/Iowa Solon Women’s Club is again sponsoring a recycling opportunity for plastic Easter eggs. The plastic eggs are being collected in a bin in the hallway of the Solon Public Library. Undamaged eggs will be cleaned and reused for the club’s Egg My Yard Fundraiser next year. The recycling bin will be available through the month of April.
Egg My Yard fundraiser gains community support
This year’s beneficiary of funds raised by “Egg My Yard” is the Solon Park and Rec department. A total of $1,200 was raised with 31 families participating in the fundraiser. Funds raised will go toward putting additional dugouts on the baseball fields in the recreational park. Each dugout is expected to cost over $4,000. Eggs were either delivered by “the bunny,” or boxed and picked up for future delivery.
The GFWC/Iowa Solon Women’s Club wishes to thank all families participating in the fundraiser for their generous support. Feedback on this fundraiser can be emailed to club president, Eileen Hageman, at [email protected]. The project will likely be continued for a fourth season next March.
Similar funds were raised by the project in 2023. Those monies are being held by the city to be used toward lighting on the trail in the recreational park. They are working to secure a grant or other funding to make the project viable.
