SOLON — State law requires taxing entities (cities, counties, and school districts) to hold public hearings ahead of adopting a new budget. Last Wednesday, the Solon Community School District (SCSD) Board of Education held a public hearing regarding the property tax levy and were met with rows of nearly empty seats (with only a reporter and one resident in attendance).
For the Fiscal Year (FY) 25 budget, which starts July 1 and runs through June 30, the district is keeping the same property tax rate – $16.28, but property owners will notice a higher tax bill due to an increase in property valuation, which is set by the County Auditor’s Office and not by the school district.
The district will hold a public hearing on the full FY25 budget Thursday, April 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the central administrative offices at 301 S. Iowa St.
