IOWA CITY — The Solon High School Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Desmond Cervantez, participated in the KCCK’s 17th Corridor Jazz Project last week. The event matches a high school jazz band with a professional jazz player, who performs as a guest soloist. The band rehearses the piece in one or two sessions before the band and guest artist record the track under the direction of professional producers. All tracks are then included on a compilation CD, which is available as either a download or CD through KCCK at www.kcck.org by clicking the Store tab.
This year two concerts were held. The first was Monday, March 4 at the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids with Williamsburg (featuring Bob Washut), Independence (featuring Jen Tiede), Cedar Rapids Jefferson (featuring David Nicholson), Clear Creek Amana (featuring Anthony Williams), Center Point-Urbana (featuring Aaron Ottmar), Linn-Mar (featuring Steve Shanley), Anamosa (featuring Nolan Schroeder), Prairie High School (featuring Jim Dreier, Xavier Catholic High School (featuring Lynne Hart), Cedar Rapids Washington (featuring Jason Shadrick), and Cedar Rapids Kennedy (featuring Ryan Smith).
