DES MOINES — The Iowa Print Sports Writers Association (IPSWA) announced the 2024 girls basketball all-state teams on Tuesday, March 5.
The teams were selected during an in-person meeting by approximately 37 Iowa print sports writers and basketball coaches during a meeting Saturday, March 2.
Callie Levin of Solon High School was named Miss Iowa Basketball 2024 on Saturday by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.
A 5-foot-9 guard and a University of Iowa signee, Levin led Solon (24-3) to the Class 3A state championship last week.
She averaged 22.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.8 steals per game as the Spartans won their first title since 1998.
Levin finished her career with 1,984 points, 535 rebounds, 412 assists and 417 steals. The Spartans were 79-20 with two state trips (they were 3A semifinalists in 2023) in her career.
The Miss Basketball honor and the all-state teams are voted on by both sports writers and high school basketball coaches who attended the meeting. Nominations were taken in advance of the meeting online, as well as made during the selection meeting. Only one vote was allowed per class from each newspaper or school.
Levin and Miller named to IPSWA 3A All State 1st Team
Levin and Hailey Miller were named to the Class 3A All-State 1st Team with Haylee Stokes (Estherville-Lincoln Central), Paytn Harter (Atlantic), Chloe Meester (Mount Vernon), Jayden Kuper (Monticello), Emma Townsley (Benton Community), and Clarie Lueken (Wahlert Catholic, Dubuque).
Lady Spartans earn IGCA All State and All District honors
The Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association (IGCA) also announced their All State and All District honors last week with head coach Jamie Smith receiving Class 3A All-State Coach of the Year. Smith, in his sixth year with the Lady Spartans, led the team to their first State Appearance since 2006 last year and to their first Class 3A Championship this year. Smith was also named the Class 3A Southeast District Coach of the Year as well.
Levin and Miller were named to the 3A All State First Team and 3A Southeast All District Teams. Levin is a four-time 1st Team selectee and will play for the Iowa Hawkeyes next season.
