Movie & Meal (M&M)
Friday, March 29 in the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall
The Senior Advocates started the Meal and Movie and catered meal the last Friday of each month at the Solon Public Library in 2010 from a suggestion from then-librarian Kris Brown. First-run movies were usually selected but a lot of “old-timers” were also presented. The meals were selected from our local restaurants and a local chef who runs Amos Dean’s Catering.
COVID halted the movie and catering runs for a time, but it was decided to incorporate the Meal and Movie with Friday Senior Dining in-house meals once Senior Dining came out of the COVID shutdown. The Advocates purchased a large Smart TV and affixed it to a wall in the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall and the M&M was back on board the last Friday of the month with the meal coming from the Care Center. The Advocates soon decided to get back to the old regimen of catered meals from local restaurants and catering service, and will launch the first catered meal Friday, March 29 from Amos Dean’s Catering Service at the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
Call 319-430-8655 for reservations and arrive at 11:00 a.m.
Cost $5.00.
This month’s movie – “The Holdover.” A curmudgeonly instructor at a New England prep school remains on campus during Christmas break to babysit a handful of students. Reportedly, this is one of Barack Obama’s favorite flicks.
Solon Senior of the Year nominations being accepted
May is Older American’s Month and each year since 2006, the Senior Advocates have selected a Senior of the Year by a nomination process. The person is someone who has given of themselves in service to the community through volunteerism, enhancing the well-being of others, or someone always ready to assist or provide help when needed. The nominee should live in Solon or the immediate area and be over 65 years of age. The recipient will be honored at a Solon City Council meeting, at an open house ceremony, and during the Solon Beef Days Parade.
