SOLON — The Lady Spartans returned triumphantly to Solon Saturday afternoon after vanquishing Golden Eagles, Lions, and Midgets in the 2024 Iowa Girls High School Class 3A State Basketball Championships. The Solon Fire Dept. not only met the caravan at the south edge of town, but provided a water cannon salute as they escorted the ladies to the high school.
The Voice of the Spartans, Don Ellis, emceed a welcome home event, which featured comments from Coach Jamie Smith and assistant coaches Jim Smith, Nathan Watson, and Mark Sovers.
Solon clinched their first 3A Championship, and the first State title since 1998 (2A) with a 54-47 win over No. 1 seed Estherville-Lincoln Central Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
The Solon Lady Spartans returned victorious from the 2024 Class 3A State Basketball Tournament with the State Championship trophy on Saturday and were escorted by the Solon Fire Department to a victory celebration at the high school.
