DES MOINES — The Solon Lady Spartans made school history last week as they earned their first Class 3A State Basketball Championship at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Solon knocked off Wahlert Catholic (Dubuque) 58-47 in the Quarterfinals last Tuesday and pounded Des Moines Christian 58-47 in Thursday’s Semifinals before overpowering the Estherville-Lincoln Central Midgets 54-47 in the Championship Game Friday night.
Solon’s previous championships were in Class 2A in 1994, 1997, and 1998. This year’s appearance was the team’s second consecutive and ninth overall.
The Lady Spartans react to being presented with the 2024 Class 3A State Basketball Champions trophy Friday, March 1 after defeating Estherville-Lincoln Central 54-47 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. This is the first State Championship for the varsity girls since 1998 (Class 2A).
