We are partnering with the GFWC/Solon Women’s Club to present quarterly programs focusing on Mental Health to provide insight, resources, and coping skills for a variety of mental health conditions. The goal is to educate, de-stigmatize, and provide information on mental health resources available to our community through local and national organizations. For our second Mental Health 101 program, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Johnson County will present In Our Own Voice, a program to provide a personal perspective of mental health conditions, as leaders with lived experience talk openly about what it’s like to have a mental health condition. We invite community members to join us for this program on Saturday, February 24th at 10:30 a.m. in the Library’s community meeting room. Light refreshments will be provided.
Library Events
Join the fun of Blind Date With a Book during the month of February. Blind Date with a Book aims to break the habit of judging books by their covers or titles and encourages readers to step out of their comfort zones. Additionally, it provides an opportunity to discover hidden gems and explore literature that you might not have come across otherwise.
Books are selected by library staff and wrapped in plain paper to conceal what’s inside. Participants will follow a flow chart directing them to a new book they may enjoy. Then readers take their “blind date” book home and unwrap it to discover what they’ve chosen. After reading the book, readers can rate their date to share feedback with the library and enter to win a prize package. All rate your date slips must be returned to the library by Thursday, February 29.
Get inspired in the kitchen with Cookbook Club! Saturday, February 17 at 11 a.m., we’ll gather to share and discuss our trials for One Pan Meals. Can you create delicious meals using just one pan (or pot)? Pick up a cookbook for inspiration and join us to eat and chat!
Pick up a copy of The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner, and join the Solon Book Club discussion Tuesday, February 20 at 6:30 p.m. The Solon Book Club gathers monthly to discuss their latest selection, this group takes turns selecting books and leading the discussion. Books are available for check-out at the Library and new members are always welcome.

What We’re Reading
Many of the Library staff have been reading thrillers as of late. These stories pull you in and keep you guessing until the very last pages.
The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley. Jess needs a fresh start. She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less-than-ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? – he’s not there. The longer Ben stays missing, the more Jess starts to dig into her brother’s situation, and the more questions she has. Ben’s neighbors are an eclectic bunch, and not particularly friendly. Jess may have come to Paris to escape her past, but it’s starting to look like it’s Ben’s future that’s in question.
The socialite – The nice guy – The alcoholic – The girl on the verge – The concierge.
Everyone’s a neighbor. Everyone’s a suspect. And everyone knows something they’re not telling.
The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose. Would you defend your husband if he was accused of killing his mistress? Sarah Morgan is a successful and powerful defense attorney in Washington D.C. At 33 years old, she is a named partner at her firm and life is going exactly how she planned. The same cannot be said for her husband, Adam. He is a struggling writer who has had little success in his career. He begins to tire of his and Sarah’s relationship as she is constantly working. Out in the secluded woods, at Adam and Sarah’s second home, Adam engages in a passionate affair with Kelly Summers. Then, one morning everything changes. Adam is arrested for Kelly’s murder. She had been found stabbed to death in Adam and Sarah’s second home.
Sarah soon finds herself playing the defender for her own husband, a man accused of murdering his mistress. But is Adam guilty or is he innocent?
An Honest Lie by Tarryn Fisher. Lorraine— “Rainy”—lives at the top of Tiger Mountain. Remote, moody, cloistered in pine trees and fog, it’s a sanctuary, a new life. She can hide from the disturbing past she wants to forget. If she’s allowed to.
When Rainy reluctantly agrees to a girls’ weekend in Vegas, she’s prepared for an exhausting parade of shots and slot machines. But after a wild night, her friend Braithe doesn’t come back to the hotel room. And then Rainy gets the text message, sent from Braithe’s phone: someone has her. But Rainy is who they really want, and Rainy knows why. What follows is a twisted, shocking journey on the knife-edge of life and death. If she wants to save Braithe—and herself—the only way is to step back into the past.
We’re also enjoying thrillers by these authors: Rachel Hawkins, Stacy Willingham, and Ruth Ware. We can’t wait to see what books you’ll give a try this month.
