The Solon Public Library is supported by the Friends of the Library and the Library Foundation. These groups host various fundraisers throughout the year and provide funding for different Library programs, materials, and special projects. We couldn’t provide all the services we do without their support, and yours!
Make your plans now to attend the Friends of the Library Annual Used Book Sale Saturday, March 2 from 8 a.m. to Noon in the Library meeting room. The Friends will have a wide variety of books, movies, and other materials available for purchase. One of the biggest ways the Friends support us is with summer reading program funding and prizes. So every purchase you make, helps the Library too!
While you shop the Friends’s book sale, the Foundation’s 3rd Annual “Put a Bid On it” Art Auction will be taking place. Be sure to take a look at the art around the meeting room so you can “Put A Bid On It” and take home a new art piece (or two)!
The Foundation is seeking donations for the art auction. If you have a piece that no longer works in your space, are an artist, collector, or just love the Library, please keep the Foundation in mind. Donations can be dropped off at the Library during regular hours, receipts are available. Proceeds will be directed toward the replacement of the meeting room dividing wall. Thank you for supporting the Solon Public Library Foundation.

What’s New?
Enrich your life with new topics, new ideas, and a new book!
1000 Words by Jami Attenberg. In 2018, novelist Jami Attenberg, faced with a looming deadline, needed writing inspiration. Using a bootcamp model, she and a friend set out to write one thousand words daily for two weeks straight. They opened this practice to Attenberg’s online community and soon hundreds then thousands of people started using the #1000WordsofSummer hashtag to track their work and support one another. What began as a simple challenge between two friends has become a literary movement—write 1,000 words per day without judgment, or bias, or concerns about writer’s block, and see what comes of it.
Better Living Through Birding by Christian Cooper. Cooper tells the story of his extraordinary life leading up to the now-infamous incident in Central Park and shows how a life spent looking up at the birds prepared him, in the most uncanny ways, to be a gay, Black man in America today. From sharpened senses that work just as well at a protest as in a park to what a bird like the Common Grackle can teach us about self-acceptance, Better Living Through Birding exults in the pleasures of a life lived in pursuit of the natural world and invites you to discover them yourself.
Epic Homesteading by Kevin Espiritu. As Kevin has proven—thanks to his enthusiasm and willingness to experiment—there’s no need to go “back to the land,” live off-grid, and leave behind modern conveniences to improve your self-sufficiency and autonomy. Anyone can do it.
Follow in Kevin’s footsteps with this accessible, beginner-friendly guide to embracing today’s technology to grow and preserve food, raise mini livestock like bees and chickens, set up automated systems like irrigation and greywater recycling, and so much more.
