On Monday, Feb. 12, Alzheimer’s Association advocates like myself will meet with policymakers at the Iowa State Capitol to share their stories and advance policies to improve early Alzheimer’s detection, diagnosis and care. This year, we are urging state legislators to fund a Dementia Service Specialist program to help families facing Alzheimer’s and dementia with care planning, access local support and resources, perform memory screenings and more. We are also asking legislators to require appropriate coverage for biomarker testing to support the early detection and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and dementia and remove barriers that prevent people living with dementia from benefiting from biomarker testing.
As a caregiver, Alzheimer’s Association volunteer, and current member of the Alzheimer’s Association Iowa Chapter Board of Directors, I am advocating for these priorities on Feb. 12 because they will improve the lives of the 66,000 Iowans living with Alzheimer’s and the 100,000 family members and friends providing care and help cut the overall cost of care for this devastating disease for families and the state. Join me on Monday, Feb. 12, and raise your voice to help end Alzheimer’s and dementia. Visit alz.org/iowa to register and learn more.
