The Solon Economist announces that, effective after the Feb. 1, 2024 edition, we are selling the publication, in all print and digital formats, to The Daily Iowan, a part of the non-profit corporation Student Publications, Inc., and the student newspaper at the University of Iowa.
“The Johnson County area is a little farther from our core market of Dubuque, making it more difficult to manage and reducing the efficiencies needed to operate in today’s media environment,” Bob Woodward, recent Vice President of Woodward Community Media said. “Financially, these publications were not doing as well as we’d hoped they would. Since SPI already has people and another publication in the market, it makes more sense for them to operate the Solon Economist.”
“We are excited for this opportunity and it’s a great fit for our organization,” said Daily Iowan publisher Jason Brummond, who will manage and serve as publisher of the Solon Economist. “Community newspapers play an important and integral role in their communities, and we believe strongly in quality local journalism.”
