JOHNSTON — Friends of Iowa PBS and the Iowa Genealogical Society are partnering to offer a beginner to intermediate genealogy workshop this winter. Finding Your Roots Through Records will consist of four virtual sessions focused on the public records individuals can research in order to find more information about their ancestors.
Each two-hour session will feature a combination of lecture and discussion and question and answer time. Handouts will also be provided for each session. The Zoom webinars will be recorded, and registrants can view the sessions later; however, because this workshop is interactive, registrants are encouraged to attend the live sessions.
These sessions will provide valuable information to guide researchers as they dive into genealogical pursuits and each session will use Iowa examples. Topics for each session will cover research involving newspapers, census and vital records, as well as cemetery, church and funeral home records.
Registration is $100 and includes live access to all four sessions, the recordings of each session and any supplemental materials provided by the instructors. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to build your family tree and connect with your heritage.
In addition to its statewide broadcast, Iowa PBS .1 is available to livestream on iowapbs.org/watch, pbs.org/livestream, the PBS App, Local Now, YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV.
Iowa PBS programs, behind-the-scenes extras and more can be enjoyed on iowapbs.org, Facebook and YouTube. Viewers can also stream their favorite shows on demand using the PBS App, available on iOS, Android and many streaming devices.
