The Tri-Township (Solon) Fire Department recently released their statistics from 2023.
The all-volunteer department responded to 520 calls for service, which is the second-highest call volume behind 2022’s record 567 calls. 4,210 hours were spent on these responses, of which 61% were medical emergencies.
1,149 hours were spent in training, which is “mission critical” and covers firefighting and investigation, EMS/medical, vehicle extrication, the department’s apparatus (trucks) and equipment, and much more.
In April the department took delivery of a new $650,000 heavy rescue truck, which replaced a smaller unit built in 2007. That unit was sold to the Clifton (Duluth Twp.) Volunteer Fire Dept. in northern Minnesota.
The department hosted it’s annual pancake breakfast, a tradition since 1963 and the first in the new fire station, Saturday, May 28 with 2,547 people served.
The department has 30 members and covers 112 square miles in Johnson County.
Solon’s volunteer firefighters are hosting an open house on Sunday. People flocked to the new fire station Sunday, May 28 for the annual pancake breakfast, but this will be the public’s first chance to tour all of the new facility.
