SOLON — The Solon Community School District’s Board of Education approved the 2024-2025 academic calendar during their regular meeting Thursday, Jan. 18 with a slight caveat. As it stands now the school year will start Monday, August 25. However, legislation is under consideration that would allow for an earlier start. Superintendent Davis Eidahl explained if the new law is passed, the start date could move to “the first Tuesday following the last day of the (Iowa State) Fair,” which would be Tuesday, August 19.
“Our proposal,” Eidahl said, “if nothing changes with the law, this is our calendar. If this bill that has been put forward is adopted, then we will come back to you with the calendar and ask for a revision so that we can start on the 19th.”
Passage of the law would also move up the start date for the 2024-2025 school year with the end of the school year moving up as well.
The ’25-’26 calendar shows three days off (Wednesday through Friday) for Thanksgiving, Winter Break starting Monday, Dec. 22 with a return to classes Monday, Jan. 5. Spring break is Friday, March 13 through Friday, March 20, and the high school graduation is scheduled for Sunday, May 17 with the last day for students on Wednesday, June 3 (1:45 p.m. dismissal).
The calendar passed 5-0.
