MOUNT VERNON — The historic rivalry was played out on the mats last week as the Spartans traveled to Mount Vernon for a dual meet. The Mustangs doubled up on Solon with a 36-18 win.
Lucas Feuerbach (215 pounds) pinned MV’s Kael Riniker (1:32), Jayden Steapp (113) won an 8-7 decision over MV’s CJ Martin, Kyler Steapp (120) won 3-2 over MV’s Jake Haugse, Evan Burg (126) took a 12-8 decision from the Mustangs’ Drew Thurn, and Charlie Karam (132) won a 3-2 decision from Caleb Keegan.

“Mount Vernon is one of the better teams in the state this year and I was proud of how our kids fought,” said Coach Aaron Hadenfeldt. “We asked Evan Gleason to step out onto the mat and Jayden Steapp to bump up a weight, and they didn’t ask why, they just went out and fought their hardest. Those are the types of things that make a great team.”
