IOWA CITY — City High’s Little Hawk varsity boys swim team finished seventh in points in the 2024 Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) Championships last Saturday at Waterloo West High School. Linn-Mar took the team title (364 points) followed by Cedar Falls (357), Dubuque Hempstead (294), Iowa City West High (281), Cedar Rapids Washington (215), and Dubuque Senior (174). City High had 166 points with Cedar Rapids Kennedy (79), Cedar Rapids Jefferson (68), and Waterloo West (46) rounding out the field.
Solon’s Grant Bumsted is swimming with the Little Hawks this season and is a captain on the team. Bumsted was 18th in the 50-yard freestyle (24.40 seconds) and 11th in the 100-yard butterfly (58.16).
City High hosted Linn-Mar last Tuesday (Jan. 16) and fell 103-67.
Bumsted finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.03) and was second in the 100 butterfly (58.88).
The Little Hawks will compete Saturday, Feb. 3 in a state qualifying district meet in Johnston with Centerville, Des Moines Roosevelt, IC West, Johnston, Oskaloosa, Waukee, and Williamsburg. The 2024 State Meet is set for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9 and 10 at the University of Iowa’s Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, 309 S. Madison St., Iowa City.
